Deep, deep red in the glass. Very densely coloured and almost opaque.
Intense dark forest fruits and ripe currants with hints of aniseed spice and clove.
The black currant and blackberry fruits are very intense on the palate and cocoa like earthy-savoury characters begin to build. A voluminous and silky tannin structure builds and drives the full palate length. This wine shows where the variety gets its name, through its colour, leading to its structure.
Most times it is used as a colouring agent for lighter red wines. Decanting of this wine or consumption with rich food further
releases further layers and hidden fruits.
