Grown from cuttings from a renowned Australian vineyard, our aim was to marry the elements of fruit freshness, the variety’s natural savouriness and “iron fist in a velvet glove” tannins, with a plush mid-palate.
Mataro, Mourvedre, Monastrell? Whatever your persuasion, this is the quiet kid in the back that suddenly spoke! These cuttings found their way into our Heathcote vineyard and my, how they’ve grown! Fresh, savoury and plush with that aforementioned tannin. Judicious wine-making saw 3 weeks on skins, wild yeast ferment, 16 months in seasoned French oak & only a tiny amount made…mmm! indeed.
